Bacolod City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod is requesting Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez to implement City Ordinance No. 08-15-72 series of 2015 or “An ordinance strengthening the implementation of R.A. 10627.
R.A. No. 10627 is “An Act Requiring all Elementary and Secondary Schools to Adopt Policies to Prevent and Address the Acts of Bullying in Their Institutions and For Other Purpose.”
The resolution authored by Councilor Claudio Puentevella said students who experience bullying are at increased risk for depression, anxiety, sleep difficulties, lower academic achievement, and dropping out of school.
There is a need to shape the conduct of the students to instill discipline and essential values so as to integrate them to be productive and dynamic citizens of the city, it said.
The resolution said that as classes shift from distant learning to face-to-face classes, schools should inlcude in their policies and practices the education of their students against bullying and harassment. (Chrysee Semillano via The Visayan Daily Star (TVDS), photo courtesy of TVDS)
