Bacolod City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod City did not grant the request of the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) for the extension of the filing of the Mayor’s Permit for 2025 and first quarter payment of business tax, to March 31.

MBCCI president Juliana Carbon earlier requested for the extension, on behalf of the business community of Bacolod City, in a letter to acting Bacolod Mayor El Cid Familiaran dated February 14.

Councilor Al Victor Espino, chair of the SP Committee on Laws, Ordinances, and Good Government, said he is not inclined to endorse to the SP the request of the MBCCI for extension, after a conference with the City Treasurer to thresh out the advantages and disadvantages of granting the request for an extension vis-a-vis the city’s relationship with the investors and businessmen.

Espino said that based on the data of the City Treasurer’s Office, the city surpassed its total collection with regards to renewals and new business applications, as of February 17. The city collected P622.4 million this year, compared to the same period last year, which amounted to P569.6 million.

He also pointed out that they have not extended the Business One Stop Shop (BOSS) for two consecutive years. Without an extension, the city will still accepted payments for renewal and new business applications.

Espino said that the majority of businesses applied for renewal and new business applications. So it would be unfair to them if the filling of the Mayor’s Permit for 2025 and first quarter payment of business tax would be extended.

The city granted taxpayers a 10 percent discount if they make a one-time payment from January 1 to 20. After January 20, they cannot avail of the 10 percent discount, but will not be imposed penalties and surcharges until February 15. (Chrysee Semillano via tvds)
