Bacolod SP pushes social pension for seniors

Bacolod City – Chairperson of the Committee on Senior Citizens and Veterans Affairs Councilor Celia Flor, together with Councilors Distrito, Espino, Gonzalez, Puentevella, Sayson, Sy, and Villarosa filed an ordinance establishing a social pension fund for qualified Senior Citizens in the City of Bacolod.

Flor said, “We are starting to fulfill our campaign promise of a social pension for Seniors in Bacolod City.”

Flor mentioned that there is an ongoing validation and updating of the Senior Citizens’ database to determine the actual number of senior citizens in the City of Bacolod and to check how many are qualified to receive the social pension.

According to the ordinance, those who are eligible are indigent senior citizens who do not receive any form of contributory pension, as well as individuals receiving not more than PhP 5,000.00 monthly from a contributory pension and the social pension program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development. Those who have no permanent source of income, compensation, or financial assistance from relatives to support his/her basic needs, and a registered voter and a resident of Bacolod City for at least 1 year.
