Bacolod City – An ordinance setting the third Sunday of October as the permanent schedule of the MassKara Festival highlights in the City of Bacolod, was passed by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod on first, second, and final reading yesterday.
The ordinance authored by Councilor Em Ang and co-authored by Councilors Jason Villarosa and Cindy Rojas, amended City Ordinance No. 09-17-820, dated May 24, 2017, or “An ordinance setting the fourth Sunday of October as the permanent schedule of the MassKara Festival highlights in the City of Bacolod.”
It said the fourth Sunday of October has been annually marked with rain and weather disruption, impacting the overall experience of the festival highlights.
The change in schedule to the third weekend of October aims to ensure more stable weather conditions for the safety and comfort of festival goers and visitors, as well as the successful performance of the MassKara Festival highlights and activities, the ordinance said.
Section 1 of City Ordinance 09-17-820, series of 2017 will be amended to read as -“The City of Bacolod shall celebrate the highlights of MassKara Festival every third Sunday of October to strengthen, promote, and expand the festival’s impact in tourism.” (Chrysee Semillano via tvds)
