Bacolod City – The Central Negros Electric Cooperative / Negros Power remains as having the cheapest electricity in the Negros Island Region for the month of September, despite an increase in generation charge.

Negros Power spokesman Jonathan Cabrera reported recently that their residential rate remains at P11.70 per kilowatt hour.

In Negros Island Region, NORECO 1 in Negros Oriental logged the highest residential rate at P16.69/kWh, while Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (NONECO) is at P15.04, NORECO 2 at P14.41/kWh, and Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative (NOCECO) at P14.56/Kwh.

As a distribution utility, there is no increase in the distribution charge for Negros Power consumers, Cabrera said.

As we all know, generation charges constitute a significant portion of our total electricity rates per kilowatt hour. We remain steadfast in our commitment to efficient electricity supply trading in the market, ensuring that we secure the most competitive prices to deliver affordable rates to our consumers, he stressed.

In Panay Island, MORE Power, sister company of Negros Power, offered the lowest residential rate at P12.61/kWh, compared to seven other distribution facilities in Panay and Guimaras islands, which ranged from P12.71/kWh to P15.93/kWh, due to its efficient power procurement practices, Cabrera further claimed.

MORE Power and Negros Power also got the lowest generation rates of P6.76 and P7.29, respectively, he added. (Gilbert Bayoran via The Visayan Daily Star)
