BACOLOD CITY – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) have placed Negros Occidental under Blue Alert Status in observance of Holy Week.

The PDRRMC announced recently that the alert will be in effect immediately until 8 a.m. on April 21.

A Blue Alert Status signifies heightened monitoring, increased preparedness, and enhanced coordination to track potential issues and respond to emergencies.

It also involves intensified communication among agencies, local government units, and emergency responders, who remain on standby for necessary action.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson reminded the public of the significance of the season during a recent press briefing.

“Let us remember why we are celebrating this season,” Lacson said.

“Although I know many Filipinos will take advantage of the long break to go out and enjoy,” he added.

He also urged caution on the road, especially for motorcycle riders.

“If you are traveling, don’t drink and drive,” he said.

“You don’t need to go fast—what matters is arriving at your destination safely,” Lacson added.

“It is not a race.”

Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer also urged reflection during the Lenten season.

“Let us always put God first in our life,” Ferrer said.

He added that Holy Week is a time to reflect, pray, and ask for guidance.

Ferrer shared that he was invited to a political gathering today Holy Thursday but declined the invitation in observance of the season. (Dolly Yasa via tdg)
