Bacolod: Negros Occidental logs 5,528 dengue cases

Bacolod City – The death toll due to dengue in Negros Occidental rose to 16, and reported cases soared to 5,528, as of November 2, according to the Provincial Health Office.

Dengue cases from January to Nov. 2 increased by 4,219 cases, which is up by 322.33 percent compared to 1,309 cases in the same period last year.

The Provincial Health Office (PHO) logged 5,338 cases in Negros Occidental from January to October 26 this year, an increase of 331.16 percent, compared to 1,292 cases in the same period of 2023.

Bago City remains on top of the list, with having the most dengue cases at 644, although there were no fatalities.

On the other hand, the City Health Office also reported an increase of dengue cases in Bacolod City by 321 percent, from 493 last year to 2,077 cases, with three deaths, covering the period of January to Oct. 26 of this year.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Girlie Pinongan, however, said that the number of dengue cases in the province has been slowly decreasing over the past weeks.

Pinongan added that PHO continues to link up with barangays, especially those with dengue-related deaths, advocating for cleaning of identified mosquito breeding grounds, among others.

The top 10 Negros Occidental LGUs, excluding highly urbanized Bacolod City, in terms of the number of dengue cases, is San Carlos City that trailed behind Bago City at 424 cases, Hinobaan – 405, Sagay City – 345, Talisay City – 338, Kabankalan City – 333, Silay City – 330, Cauayan – 329, Cadiz City – 301 and Sipalay City – 227.
