Bacolod City – Amid prevailing El Niño phenomenon, the Provincial Health Office is currently focusing on water borne diseases, which could be a threat due to scarcity of water.

According to Provincial Health Officer Dr. Girlie Pinongan, the good news is they have not recorded any diseases that can be related to El Niño in Negros Occidental, as of this time.

However, Pinonggan still reminded the public to always stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Drink plenty of water, stay away from the intense heat of the sun, and watch out for heat stroke symptoms, the PHO head said.

Although heat stroke mainly affects people over 50 years old, it can also affect healthy young athletes, and anyone exposed to prolonged heat, according to the Department of Health.

Pinongan also advised Negrenses to be vigilant on the quality of water they drink. (Gilbert Bayoran via The Visayan Daily Star)
