Bacolod City – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) logged two more ash emissions from the Kanlaon volcano summit crater, between 5:41 a.m. to 5:46 a.m. and 7:46 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on Monday, December 2, as Alert Level 2 prevails over the active volcano.
The events, according to PHIVOLCS, generated grayish plumes that rose 400 to 600 meters above the crater, before drifting northwest and north-northwest, as recorded by the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory – Canlaon City IP Camera.
PHIVOLCS alerted residents in nearby areas of light ashfall.
Five volcanic earthquakes were also detected during the monitoring, with sulfur dioxide (SO₂) emissions remaining high at 9,377 tons per day, showing that the volcano is releasing gases.
While there is no immediate threat of a major eruption, sudden steam-driven explosions could happen, PHIVOLCS said.
Authorities are encouraging residents to stay clear of the 4-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ), in order to be safe from unexpected volcanic activity, such as rock falls and ash emissions. (Gilbert bayoran via tvds)
