Bacolod City – A Negros Occidental lawmaker has stated that the fifth district, centrally located in the province, stands to gain significantly from the re-establishment of the Negros Island Region (NIR).
Fifth district representative Atty. Dino Yulo expressed that due to several localities in the district serving as passageways to the Oriental side, the area would greatly benefit from the NIR’s reinstatement.
“We have areas that directly link to the Oriental side, so I believe that the fifth district will greatly benefit once the NIR is reestablished,” Yulo said.
He said that most of the road networks on the Occidental side are already paved with concrete.
The lawmaker also noted that establishing road portals in the fifth district is part of his program.
He emphasized that these road networks would not only spur progress but also promote peace in the countryside.
Yulo highlighted the advantage these roads would provide to local farmers, making it easier for them to transport their produce to the market.
The localities with direct links to the Oriental side include Himamaylan City and the towns of La Castellana, Isabela, and Moises Padilla.
In Isabela town, Yulo pointed out that the connection to the Oriental side runs through Barangay Sikatuna to Guihulngan City. “It is one of the fastest routes to the Oriental side,” he noted.
He added that while the Occidental part of the road network is already concrete, there are still some unpaved sections on the Oriental side.
For Moises Padilla town, the development is focused on the road portal from Barangay Macagahay to Trinidad town in Negros Oriental.
Meanwhile, La Castellana town has a direct connection to Canlaon City, and Himamaylan City is linked to Negros Oriental through the town of Tayasan.
