BACOLOD CITY – Kanlaon Volcano continues to exhibit unrest, as indicated by the occurrence of another ash emission event on February 16.
The event generated grayish plumes that rose 150 meters above the summit crater, according to reports of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology. The ash emission lasted three minutes.
Kanlaon Volcano also logged six volcanic quakes.
However, no ash fall was reported from communities surrounding the volcano, Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Officer Irene Bel Ploteña disclosed.
Last February 13, a total of 31 barangays in cities of Bago and La Carlota, as well as La Castellana and Pontevedra, were blanketed by ash fall, following ash emissions from Kanlaon Volcano.
Despite numerous ash emission incidents, Alert Level 2 still prevails over Kanlaon Volcano, prompting prohibitions within the 4-km Permanent Danger Zone. (Gilbert Bayoran via tvds)
