Bacolod City – Dengue cases in Negros Occidental have further increased by 94 percent, with six deaths, as of August 10, according to reports of the Provincial Health Office.
Dr. Girlie Pinongan, Provincial Health Officer, met on Friday with the chiefs of different provincial government managed hospitals, on actions that can be taken with the continuing influx of dengue patients in government medical facilities.
PHO data indicated that dengue cases from January to Aug. 10 this year have reached 1,777 cases, compared to 862 cases in the same period of 2023, registering an increase of 94.21 percent.
Aside from government hospitals, even private hospitals and rural health units are now operating at full capacity, Pinongan admitted.
Dengue fast lanes have been opened in all district hospitals managed by the provincial government of Negros Occidental.
Pinongan said they are planning to teach health workers on how to treat dengue patients at their level, in order to decongest patients in the hospitals.
PHO reports also indicated that children with ages from one to 10, are the most affected demographic.
The highly urbanized Bacolod City also logged 434 cases, with two fatalities.
Compared to 317 cases with three deaths during the same period last year, its dengue cases increased by 36.9 percent. (Gilbert Bayoran via The Visayan Daily Star)
