Damage to agricultural, livestock and fishery products in Negros Occidental, caused by monsoon rains enhanced by Super Typhon Egay was placed at P91,819,666.22 by the Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD).
Of the P91.8 million total, the PDMPD reported that the agricultural sector sustained P45,118,398 damage, while the fisheries sector suffered P46,098,418.11 in losses, and P602,830 in losses for the livestock sector.
The PDMPD also reported 697 houses were either destroyed or partially damaged by continuing rains, with 28 families, composed of 102 persons, are still staying in evacuation centers as of July 28.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson disclosed on July 30 that local government units will handle the assistance for residents whose houses were damaged by the monsoon rains and flooding.
Of the affected houses, 40 were totally damaged and 658 were partially damaged, PDMPD reports showed.
They were located in 45 barangays of 15 LGUs that were affected in Negros Occidental, with San Enrique being the hardest hit LGU, which has 290 damaged houses in eight of its barangays, the PDMPD report added. (Gilbert Bayoran via The Visayan Daily Star (TVDS), photo courtesy of TVDS)
