Bacolod: Cops recover 401 assorted firearms in July

Bacolod City – The Police Regional Office 6 reported the recovery of 401 assorted firearms in Western Visayas for the month of July.

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office has again topped the campaign, in terms of confiscation of firearms, accounting for 123, followed by Iloilo Police Provincial Office – 75, Antique Police Provincial Office – 56, Regional Mobile Force Battalion – 46, Capiz Police Provincial Office – 32, Aklan Police Provincial Office – 30, Bacolod City Police Office – 17, Iloilo City Police Office -13, and Guimaras Police Provincial Office – 9.

In the same period, 55 suspects were arrested, while an additional 56 explosives had been recovered. Of the recovered firearms, a total of 332 were surrendered.

The NOCCPO contributed to the accomplishments by arresting 27 suspects.

In a statement, regional police spokesman Lt. Col. Arnel Solis said that PRO6 implemented the initiative ‘Tokhang Kontra Armas Luthang (TKAL) effectively, an inventiveness aimed at revitalizing the campaign against criminality, specifically targeting the proliferation of loose firearms.

This endeavor employs both the soft-hand approach, known as ‘Tokhang Panagbalay’, and the iron-hand approach, which involves strict law enforcement through focused-police operations, Solis said. (Gilbert Bayoran via The Visayan Daily Star)
