Bacolod City – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) District-Western Visayas is on heightened alert in preparation for the possible influx of travelers in sea ports for the All-Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

PCG District Western Visayas commander, Captain Edgar Ybañez, during his visit here recently, said he directed all Coast Guard personnel to monitor the sea ports in anticipation of passengers for the mentioned holidays.

This is in consideration on the ease of travel restrictions of local government units amid the pandemic.

Despite this, Ybañez reminded travelers to strictly follow the health protocols.

Ybañez said that K9 units will also be deployed in seaports.

Meanwhile, Ybañez, who just assumed his post, said that he will focus on law enforcement particularly the operations against illegal fishing.

He also said they are planning to divide the stations into two in the province, as they will put up another station in southern Negros.

“Hopefully, before the end of this year,” he said, adding that they are just waiting for the orders from the higher headquarters.
