Bacolod: CHO asked to ensure eateries grill properly

Bacolod City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod is requesting the City Health Office and other offices to inspect and apprehend eateries and similar establishments with open and improper grilling areas as the smoke emitted from the same are hazardous to their customers and nearby residents.

The resolution authored by Simplicia Distrito is also directed to the Permits and Licensing Division, Environment and Natural Resources Office, and the City Legal – Enforcement Unit.

It has been observed that there are several eateries and similar establishments, particularly along Hernaez Street, near the entrance of City Heights Subdivision in Brgy. Taculing, and behind Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod, that have open and improper grilling areas. Some of them are even grilling in enclosed areas without adequate ventilation, it said.

The resolution said there have been complaints from the constituents of Bacolod City on the conduct of business of these eateries without taking into consideration the impact of their indiscriminate and reckless practice.

The simultaneous grilling of these eateries in these particular areas create huge volumes of smoke that could be hazardous not only to their customers, but also to nearby residents and passersby, it said.

Such repulsive and dangerous fumes are also harmful to the environment and can contribute in contaminating the quality of the air we breathe. It can also cause mild to severe respiratory diseases, the resolution said.

There is a need for the city government to take action on this matter considering that aside from the danger it poses to our constituents and the environment, it is also in violation of our law, particularly the Clean Air Act and the Environmental Code of Bacolod City, it added.
