There are 18 towns and cities in Negros Occidental classified the Comelec as potential election hotspots due to intense political rivalries, history of election-related incidents, presence of private armed groups and sightings of the New Peopleโ€™s Army in the 2019 elections.

โ€œIt is upon us candidates to show that here in Negros Occidental, we can have a peaceful and orderly elections, โ€œLacson, who is seeking for his second term as governor of Negros Occidental in tandem with Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer, said.

โ€œLetโ€™s not get violent. Shout as much as you want. But then again, what is important is to respect the outcome of the May 9 elections,โ€ he stressed.

Lacson expects a high-level campaign in Negros Occidental, as he discourages negative campaigning.

Who knows, in the future your opponent maybe your team in the future elections, he added.

In 2016 elections, Lacson defeated Ferrer in the race of governorship of Negros Occidental. Three years after, Ferrer, who is affiliated with United Negros Alliance, served as the running mate of Lacson, a member of political group Love Negros, for the vice gubernatorial position.
