Bacolod: Bacolod records 11 deaths with suspected links to dengue

Bacolod City – The city is facing a health problem as cases of dengue and other waterborne diseases have been increasing.

Based on the latest updates from the Bacolod City Health Office, the city recorded a total of 11 probable and suspected deaths from mosquito and water-related diseases.

Records of the Bacolod CHO show 2 probable deaths for dengue. One was reported in Barangay Alijis and the other in Barangay Mansilingan.

Dengue cases in the city have increased by 121.8 percent compared to last year’s records. Moreover, the city recorded 8 new dengue cases as of July 12. Out of 559 cases in the present period, 385 are pediatric cases with victims aged 19 years old and below.

Barangay Mansilingan recorded the most dengue conditions with 57 cases, followed by Brgy. Taculing with 43, Estefania – 40, Tangub -38, and Villamonte with 31 cases.

Meanwhile, another 9 deaths were reported for water-related diseases, with 6 deaths probable for leptospirosis, and 3 suspected for acute gastroenteritis.

Records also show that the current state of leptospirosis cases has increased by 50 percent, compared to records from the previous year. For the current year, recorded cases reached 15 with barangays Banago, Handumanan, and Felisa, recording 2 cases each.

Furthermore, a case of typhoid was recorded, which has increased by 48.6 percent compared to last year, and 9 cases of rotavirus were also recently recorded.

Water-related diseases are illnesses caused by toxic substances which are commonly caused by direct exposure to contaminated water. Among the common symptoms are fever, headache, stomachache, and constant vomiting.
