Bacolod City – A 52-year-old male from Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City succumbed to leptospirosis on January 26.
That is the first suspected case of leptospirosis in Bacolod this year.
Records from the Bacolod City Health Office said the patient came in for consultation on January 25, and was referred to a hospital for admission. However, he died the next day. He is reportedly involved in construction/general services work, cleaning esteros or small streams, without wearing protective gear like boots and gloves.
From January 1 to February 8, the CHO recorded four cases of leptospirosis, with one probable death. The number of cases is 20 percent lower compared to last year, covering the same period where five cases and one death was recorded.
The barangays with recorded cases of leptospirosis are Villamonte, Mansilingan, Estefania, and Brgy. 1. (Chrysee Semillano via tvds)
