Camp Col Romeo A Abendan, Zamboanga City – An accused tagged as Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) sub-leader was arrested by combined elements of Regional Intelligence Unit 9, PNP Intelligence Group; Regional Intelligence Division 9; RMFB9; Regional Maritime Unit 9; PCTC-Western Mindanao Field Office; Mabuhay Municipal Police Station; Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office – Intel Unit and 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company during a high risk intelligence-driven law enforcement operations at Brgy. Caliran, Mabuhay, Zamboanga Sibugay at about 4:00 AM of August 26, 2020.
PBGEN. JESUS D. CAMBAY, JR., Regional Director, PRO IX identified the arrested ASG member as Jamiul Nassalon who uses several aliases such as Ustad Amih, Abu Harris, Abu Janar, Abu Jamih. He is 41 years old, married, and resident of Muti, Zamboanga City.
Warrants of Arrest for crimes of Serious Illegal Detention with Ransom, Multiple Attempted Murder, both are non-bailable, and Attempted Murder with recommended bail bond of ₱120,000, under Criminal Cases Numbers 24270, 37589 and 34968 were issued by Presiding Judges of RTC Branch 16, and Branch 32 of 9th Judicial Region, Zamboanga City.
Jamiul Nassalon was arrested after a 3-hour travel using high-speed sea craft which surreptitiously entered the shorelines of Mabuhay municipality, taking advantage of the darkness of the night; unknown to him that a police asset and the members of Barangay Intelligence Network (BINs) had been monitoring his activities.
In 2009, Jamiul Nassalun is already a member of the dreaded Abu Sayyaf Group and he became notorious in his participation to various heinous crimes. He was tagged as the mastermind in the kidnapping and beheading of Doroteo Gonzales in 2009 at Brgy. Buenavista, Zamboanga City. He is known for his involvement in the bus terminal bombing in Guiwan, Zamboanga City in year 2012. He also got involved in the massacre of 8 fishermen in Siromon Waters, Brgy. Dita, Zamboanga City on January 9, 2017 and strafing of Rural Bus in KM-57, Brgy. Buenavista, Zamboanga City on February 14, of the same year. His terroristic activities have caused death and injuries of considerable number of persons and damaged substantial amount of property.
Presently, Jamiul Nassalon is in the process of organizing his group intended for another terroristic activity within the Zamboanga Peninsula.
The efforts of this office and other law enforcement agencies are in line with the Chief PNP’s directive to intensify target hardening, initiate security measures, conduct social investigations and service of warrants of arrest against members of threat groups to prevent and disrupt their terroristic plan in the region.
Meanwhile, PBGEN. JESUS D. CAMBAY, JR. emphasized that the successful operation is a result of intelligence fusion a committed and responsive members of the security cluster. He further thanked cooperation of the community for reporting the presence of the notorious criminal and assured the people of Zamboanga Peninsula that the PNP, AFP and other law enforcement units will continue to pursue all terrorist groups operating within the AOR.
