Another private armed group member falls in police op
Camp Col Rafael C Rodriguez, Butuan City ———– Caraga police nabbed another member of notorious Umali Group (Kapatiran), a Directorate of Intelligence Listed Potential Private Armed Group, in Agusan del Sur today (February 3) around 8:30 in the morning.
Police Brigadier General ROMEO M. CARAMAT, JR, Regional Director of Police Regional Office (PRO) 13 disclosed that Erec M. Alicabo, 27 years old, married, and a resident of P-6 Barangay Binongan, Veruela, Agusan del Sur (ADS) was nabbed by joint personnel of 1303rd Maneuver Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 13 and Sta. Josefa Municipal Police Station (MPS) in Barangay Poblacion, Sta. Josefa town of Agusan del Sur.
The operation was carried out under special intelligence operation (COPLAN BULAGA) of RMFB13. He was arrested based on the strength of warrants of arrest for murder which local court issued without bail and attempted murder with Php72,000.00 bail.
“Alicabo was indicted for murdering Fernando C Anubay and wounded Johny S Latiban during an ambush perpetrated by the suspect on April 30, 2020 at Road 5, Kilometer 36, Barangay Caatijan, Boston, Davao Oriental because of personal grudges.” RD CARMAT JR revealed.
It can be remembered that Umali Group (Kapatiran) is a known private armed group engaged in gun-for-hire and illegal logging activities operating in Lingig and Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, some parts of Agusan del Sur and Boston, Davao Oriental. Lately, other members were also apprehended in Davao Oriental by PNP Caraga on January 31, 2021 for murder, attempted murder, frustrated murder and robbery cases.
“The operation is part of our efforts to account wanted persons in the region and exterminate private armed groups and gun-for-hire syndicates to stop their criminal activities,” RD CARMAT JR said.
