WHILE 2,303 Covid-19 cases were logged on Tuesday – the lowest number of infections recorded since March this year — the Department of Health (DOH) warned that if there will be an increase in mobility and laxed enforcement of minimum public health standards (MPHS), active cases in the country may reach up to 52,000 by December 15, 2021.

In a virtual Kapihan Session, Dr. Alethea De Guzman, DOH Epidemiology Bureau director, said that based on the projections made by the DOH’s FASSSTER team, active cases on December 15 may register to 49,000 up to 52,000.

On a lighter side, De Guzman said the country may only log 2,100 active cases by December 15 once the current mobility level and the interval between detection to isolation, adherence to MPHS are maintained.

For the National Capital Region, De Guzman said that active cases may reach 1,035 on December 15 if current mobility levels and the interval between detection to isolation, adherence to MPHS are maintained; but may reach up to 3,535 if mobility increases, there is slower interval between case detection and isolation, and non-adherence to MPHS.

Total cases: 2.7M

Meanwhile, the country’s Covid -19 cases stood at 2,792,656 as of Tuesday. There were also 4,677 recoveries and 128 deaths.

Of the total number of infections, 1.5 percent (40,786) are active cases, 97.0 percent (2,708,466) have recovered, 1.55 percent (43,404) have died.

Twenty-two duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 19 are recoveries.

Moreover, 106 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

All laboratories were operational on October 31, 2021 but 8 laboratories were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.

Based on data in the last 14 days, the 8 non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 1.2 percent of samples tested and 1.0 percent of positive individuals.
