Less than 1% of individuals who received their COVID-19 vaccines experienced adverse effects, the City Health Office reported Monday, September 13.
Of the 261,147 vaccinated individuals, 451, or 0.17%, experienced mild adverse effects following immunization (AEFI), said City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite.
All have made full recoveries.
Meanwhile, 410 cases of vaccine breakthrough infections have been recorded since vaccination rollout began last March. Of the total breakthrough infections, 178 cases were those who had their first vaccination shot while 232 were fully-vaccinated.
Vaccine breakthrough infection happens when a fully vaccinated person gets infected with COVID-19.
Those infected experienced mild symptoms and have fully recovered, said Dr. Miravite.
Meanwhile, 5 deaths were recorded from the total cases of breakthrough infections.
“We have also recorded 5 deaths, 2 were fully vaccinated, 3 had received their first dose, but I understand that these 5 deaths, they had other comorbidities,” Dr. Miravite said.
The Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) maintains that the COVID-19 vaccination still outweigh the risks, noting that “breakthrough infection cases can still occur in small percentage of fully vaccinated individuals but less severe”.
“Again, all vaccines work. Maskin cosa pa el bacuna, tiene siempre sila ta dale protection once ya ricivi kita el bacuna,” emphasized Dr. Miravite. (Jasmine Mohammadsali)
