Addressing High Prices Of Meat In Zamboanga City

Zamboanga City Mayor Maria Isabelle “Beng:” Climaco-Salazar convened  key agencies under the Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC) to tackle immediate measures to address the high prices of meat products in the city.

The Mayor, who chairs the LPCC, has ordered the creation of a committee to immediately study the possibility of implementing a Price Cap for chicken, pork and beef meat in local markets. The committee is expected to come up with recommendations Thursday, for the immediate deliberation and action by the LPCC.

The lady mayor appealed to suppliers to sell their products at an affordable and acceptable price in a bid to ensure stable prices in the market.

This morning, the LPCC spearheaded by the DTI, DTI, LGU and other agencies conducted monitoring activities on prices and supply of meat products in barangays Calarian, Sta. Maria, Canelar and Guiwan.

Meanwhile, Dr. Arriola revealed that chicken production in Zamboanga City in Dec. 2020 was at 35,766 tons per day but decreased  to 26,008 tons per day in January 2021.

On the other hand, pork production in Dec. 2020 was at 175 heads or 10,000 kilos per day but the same reduced to 103 heads or 5,810 kilos per day in January 2021.

Among those present were City Administrator Apple Go, DA Regional Technical Director for Operations Ferdinand Gamorot, DTI Provincial Director Grace Aduca, City Veterinarian Dr. Mario Arriola, City Agriculturist Carmencita Sanchez and Zamboanga City Hog Raisers Association President Eric Harina.
