A Japanese ‘speakeasy’ in the south

On this rainy weekend, I found myself inside a subdivision in Parañaque, looking at what looked like a Japanese beverage vending machine near the street. With a little research, I found out that this “vending machine” is the entrance to Yugo Sushi, a “by reservation only” sushi restaurant. Diners can message via Facebook or call to reserve or book food deliveries.

This speakeasy-themed restaurant is located inside Fortunata Village along Sucat, Parañaque, and is quite near the entrance gates of the village. I learned later on that they also have a branch in Makati. This location was put up to service the people in the south (Parañaque, Las Piñas, Alabang, and Laguna).

The interiors of Yugo Sushi

I tried the food, omakase style and I was both impressed and happy with the presentation and the taste. I was served the fire, yugo and crunchy rolls which reminded me of a Japanese place I frequented when I was in California. I also enjoyed the salmon and ebi tempura nigiri along with their kani salad and gyoza.

This place can serve both traditional and modern fusion Japanese dishes and is owned by Head Chef Anne Urgelles and Famela Charrie Morales. The interior of the restaurant can accommodate 15 persons at a time so it is best to reserve a table before you arrive. With the delectable dishes and cozy atmosphere, this new Japanese restaurant will be here to stay.
