Surigao City, with its storied past and thriving community, is poised to celebrate a momentous occasion: the 53rd anniversary of its Charter Day. Dating back to August 31, 1970, when it was established as a chartered city under Republic Act No. 6134, Surigao City has since evolved into a dynamic center of progress and unity.
The commemoration will kick off with a solemn Thanksgiving Mass at the renowned San Nicolas Cathedral, commencing at 6:00 AM. This reflective beginning will bring together citizens, dignitaries, agencies, and organizations united in gratitude for Surigao City’s remarkable journey.
Following the mass, the City Hall Compound will buzz with excitement as the 53rd Charter Day Program unfolds. Distinguished speakers, community leaders, and residents will congregate to share compelling narratives of growth, celebrate achievements, and envision the city’s promising future.
And of course, no celebration is complete without the anticipated Charter Day Parade. The streets will come alive as the Grand Float Parade navigates through the heart of Surigao City. The parade will kick off from the Provincial Sports Complex and wind its way through Narciso St., Navarro St., Borromeo St., culminating at the City Hall Compound.
Participants are urged to gather at the Provincial Sports Complex no later than 6:00 AM to ensure a smooth and vibrant start to the day’s festivities. Let’s keep the celebratory spirit high as we mark this significant milestone in Surigao City’s journey.
Join us in commemorating this eventful day and share in the excitement.
Note: Assembly for the walking participants will be inside the Provincial Sports Complex while floats and participants with vehicle will have their assembly at Rizal St. outside of the Provincial Sports Complex.
Participants of the Drum and Lyre Competition will also join the parade and will have their stationary performance in front of the Provincial Gym, in front of SJTIT, and at the City Hall Compound. The Grand showdown of the DLC competition will be on September 2, 2023 at 1:00 PM at our Provincial Sports Complex.
Late comers will be queued last. Participants with vehicles will also be queued last to avoid congestion in the queue.
