Fifty child laborers to include their parents benefited from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional office 9 Project Angel Tree Tuesday afternoon at Brgy. Recodo.

Atty. Roy L. Buenafe, DOLE 9 regional director told RPN DXXX, these children beneficiaries are aged 15 years old and below working in the informal sector such as vendors.

He explained poverty is one of the reasons why these children work and even parents have no choice due to poverty, they let their children work.

The children received toys, food, school supplies, and hygiene kits while the parents were given starter kits for them to earn.

“Tugunan natin ang pangangailangan ng ating mga anak at hindi hayaang mag trabaho sa musmos na edad,” Buenafe said.

The regional director stressed these children must be in school and enjoying their childhood instead of working.

This is in-line with the Christmas Season and DOLE’s anniversary. (R.G. Antonet A. Go)
