The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) has revealed that a total of 27 Centenarians coming from Zamboanga City have received their ₱ 50,000 as Local Government Unit’s counterpart for the Centenarian Act.
Ma. Socoro Rojas, CSWDO officer told RPN DXXX, there were 27 beneficiaries since the city ordinance was passed last 2017.
The most recent payout for these Centenarians was conducted last Wednesday, August 19.
Two centenarians from barangays La Paz and Talisayan recently received ₱ 50,000 each as the City Government’s counterpart to the Filipino Centenarians Act or RA 10868 that grants ₱ 100,000 to senior citizens 100 years old and above through the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Eufrocino D. Sibuyan, born on May 5, 1920 of La Paz and Vicenta M. Lledo, born on May 24, 1920 received the amount facilitated by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and City Treasurer’s Office.
The amount is intended for the Centenarians personal, medical and other related needs. The program is aimed to honor and give recognition to centenarians for their wisdom and contributions to the society.
Under the administration of Mayor Beng Climaco Salazar, a number of benefit packages for senior citizens were rolled out to include the Largo Vida program or the daily delivery of maintenance medicines and the free movie screening among others.
Councilors Cesar M. Jimenez and Rodolfo Bayot who is now deceased authored the city ordinance to give additional incentives to these Centenarians. (R.G. Antonet A. Go)
