Davao City – An estimated ₱ 46, 950,000 cash aid for displaced tourism workers have already been claimed by its intended beneficiaries (As of March 9, 2021).

Atty. Jason Balais, Director II of the Department of Labor and Employment-XI bared the recent financial assistance updates to workers of the tourism sector in the region who lost their jobs due to the pandemic.

“So far we paid thru our remittance center a total of ₱ 48,030,000 benefiting 9,606 workers in the tourism industry (As of March 9, 2021). Some were not able to claim maybe due to problems in communication like incorrect cellphone numbers  they were not able to claim,” Atty. Balais said.

Around 9,390 workers were able to claim ₱ 5,000 each as part of the COVID-19 Adjustment Mitigation Program II (CAMP-2) which totals to ₱ 46,950,000. A total of 216 beneficiaries have yet to claim their assistance.

The CAMP-2 of the Department of Tourism and channeled thru the Department of Labor and Employment, is targeting 23,785 displaced tourism workers in the region equivalent to a total subsidy of ₱ 118,929, 199.

As of March 9, 2021 about ₱ 37,885,000 worth of cash assistance benefiting 7,577 workers are on process.

“We still have ₱ 33,014,000 or equivalent to 6,602 beneficiaries which we can still accommodate under CAMP-2,” Balais said.

DOT-XI regional director Tanya Rabat Tan said they are still accepting applicants for CAMP-2.

She said the number of endorsed workers totaling to 23,785 does not mean that they are approved as beneficiaries, thus CAMP-2 is still open to applicants.

“Our team is working with our counterpart in the local government units in gathering more applicants,” Regional Director Rabat Tan said.
