Zamboanga City renews its commitment to peace, unity and mutual respect among people of different faiths as it joins the United Nations (UN) in celebration of World Interfaith Harmony Week (WIHW) from February 1 to 7, 2026.

The observance was formally marked during the regular flag-raising ceremony on Monday morning, February 2 at the City Hall grounds, underscoring the city’s support for interfaith dialogue and collective action toward harmony.

During the ceremony, Fr. Sebastian D’Ambra, PIME, urged government institutions and the public to strengthen understanding across religious and cultural lines. He also led a prayer for peace, solidarity, and compassion among all Zamboangueños.

In line with the observance, the city government recently issued Executive Order No. KHYM-102-2026, signifying its support for initiatives and activities conducted in coordination with the UN from February 1 to 7. The order underscored the city’s role in advancing dialogue, respect, and cooperation among diverse communities.

The celebration is also anchored on Republic Act No. 10525, signed by the late President Benigno Aquino III, which declared the first week of February of every year as World Interfaith Harmony Week and mandates its observance by all government agencies nationwide.
