Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz calls on Mayor John Dalipe in City Hall Friday morning as she returns home for a brief respite after her participation in the recently concluded Asian Weightlifting Championships 2023 where she placed fourth in the 59kg category of the event held in Jinju, South Korea, May 5-17.

Diaz arrived with her coach and husband Julius Naranjo and were met at the airport by Mayor Dalipe and Vice Mayor Josephine Pareja.

The mayor congratulated and thanked Hidilyn for being an inspiration to Zamboangueños and people all over, through her feats that bring honor and fame to the city and country. He likewise wished her the best of luck for her forthcoming competition in the Paris Olympics, as he expressed her all out support to the weightlifter and all Zamboangueno athletes.

Diaz’ performance in the Asian Weightlifting Championships qualified her for the Parish Olympic Games in 2024.

Diaz won the country’s first gold medal in the Olympics when she dominated the 55kg category in Tokyo in 2022.

Accompanying Diaz and husband during the courtesy call were PRISAA National Executive Director Bong Atilano and City Sports Director Dr. Cecil Atilano
