Isabela City, Basilan – two (2) explosions transpired in Isabela City on May 30, 2022. First explosion took place in Barangay Isabela Proper, Isabela City particularly at the parking area of Jollibee Fast food Chain at around 5:45 PM. While personnel of Isabela City Police Station and concerned units were conducting post-blast investigation on the said area, another explosion happened in the motor pool of D’ Biel Transportation Co. situated in Barangay La Piedad, Isabela City. This resulted to the minor injuries of two (2) civilians and damage of four (4) D’ Biel transportation vehicles. On the other hand, based on a CCTV footage an unidentified male person wearing yellow t-shirt with cap left a cellophane at the parking area of Jollibee which later on exploded. While in an interview with a guard of D’ Biel motor pool, prior the explosion thereat, he noticed an unclaimed baggage which accordingly came from one of their buses from Lamitan City.
Police Regional Office 9 – under the leadership of PBGEN FRANCO P SIMBORIO, Regional Director, strongly condemns the inhumane attack, which resulted to the injury of two innocent civilians who were just doing their decent job to earn a living, such action displayed blatant disrespect for human rights and dignity. Meanwhile, aforementioned cowardice attack resulted to damages of properties and disruption of peace and order in the said place.
In connection with the above, ICPS together with EOD-K9, 39th EOD Team, CIDG-Basilan and Basilan Provincial Forensic Unit are conducting in-depth investigation to identify and locate the perpetrators as well as to gather evidence relevant to the incident. Further, ICPS is closely coordinating with the LGU of Isabela City and other law enforcement agencies for appropriate actions to be undertaken.
PBGEN SIMBORIO directed all units under PRO9 to intensify their security measures and amplify intelligence monitoring in their respective areas to ensure the public’s safety and security.
PRO9 appeals to the public to stay calm but be vigilant, we are on top of the situation and we need the cooperation of the public avoid occurrence of similar incidents. We urge the public to report any information on the identity or whereabouts of the perpetrators in the recent explosions in the City of Isabela.
