Zamboanga: Say No to Tobacco, Vape smoke

The Department of Health renews its “No Smoking Advocacy” by encouraging people to choose food instead of vape and tobacco and citing its ill effects to one’s health and the environment.

This, as the agency spearheaded activities in observance of No Smoking Month with the theme: “We need food, not vape and tobacco,” Tuesday afternoon, June 20 at the City Coliseum in Tetuan.

Participated by high school students from various public schools and other national and local government agencies, the half-day event reminded people, especially the youth about the dangers of smoking through the promotion of the slogan, “Sigarilyo at vape – Iwasan at tigilan, para Healthy Pilipinas ay masimulan.”

The program featured 7 booths that illustrated the department’s G.L.A.D. Zone which is an acronym for Galing, Laro, Aliw and Dighay as well as the conduct of the on-the-spot hiphop showdown, the karaoke high elimination round, karaoke high sing me surprise and karaoke high super sing-offs. Goal of the activities was to drum up awareness on the dangers of smoking.

June is declared National No Smoking Month pursuant to Proclamation No. 183 signed in May 1993 by then President Fidel Ramos.

Gracing the event were Mayor John Dalipe represented by Executive Assistant Amado Natividad Jr., DOH-9 Assistant Regional Director Dr. Lenny Joy Rivera, City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Miravite, members of the City Council, City Schools Superintendent Dr. Majarani Jacinto and numerous others.

Participants during the event were students from the Zamboanga City National High School Main, Talon-Talon National High School, MCLL National High School, Mampang National High School, Arena Blanco National High School, Cabaluay National High School, Tictabon Nationa High School, and Regional Science High School.
