To mitigate flooding during heavy downpour, Mayor John Dalipe has ordered concerned agencies to declog heavy silted drainage systems within the central business district specifically barangays Zones 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Combined personnel from City Engineer’s Office (CEO), City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), Task Force John Dalipe and City Mayor’s Office-Barangay Affairs Division were dispatched to undertake massive desludging works to reduce flooding in the city.

Operations started Thursday, February 16 in Camanchile Drive, La Purisima and Tomas Claudio Streets under Barangay Zone 3.

Dalipe said declogging activities will help improve the flow of water and holding capacity of waterways and the drainage systems, and ultimately help reduce flooding during heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the mayor urged the public anew to support the city’s solid waste management program, noting that heaps of solid waste and silt are hauled in declogging operations.

The city government fully supports the implementation of the drainage system project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and is undertaking similar projects to help mitigate flooding.
