Zamboanga: Dalipe condemns Perez’ shooting; SITG formed to speed up probe

Mayor John Dalipe strongly condemns the shooting incident which claimed the life of retired policeman Alvin Perez, Thursday night in sitio Lumiyap, barangay Divisoria.

The mayor, during the joint meeting of the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) and the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) Friday morning, likewise called on the authorities to conduct a thorough probe of the incident and to cause the arrest of the perpetrators the soonest possible time.

“We strongly condemn the shooting incident yesterday and we request for an intensified investigation on the case,” the mayor said during the meeting.

As this developed, Acting City Police Director Col. Alex Lorenzo has sought the approval of Regional Police Office-9 Chief BGen. Neil Alinsangan for the creation of a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) that will consist of different units from the PNP and Task Force Zamboanga to help fast-track the investigation and consequently the resolution of the case.

As of posting time, Lorenzo said police investigators are exerting best efforts to establish the identities of suspects as well as the motive of the incident.

He said police authorities are closely coordinating with the forensic laboratory to check the trajectory of bullets as well as retrieving data of CCTV footages coming from establishments in the vicinity of the crime scene as well as footages from the dash came of the victim’s vehicle.

Also in the possession of the investigators is the victim’s cellphone, as the authorities are trying to backtrack the location of the victim before he was gunned down, according to Lorenzo.

Reports indicate that Perez was on his way home shortly before 8pm Thursday when the suspects attacked him in the interior section of Lumiyap, barangay Divisoria. Perez was shot multiple times and taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead while his 2 other companions obtained injuries. Over 50 empty shells were recovered at the crime scene.

Meanwhile, Joint Task Force Zamboanga Commander Col. Randolph Rojas assured full cooperation and support in the investigation of the case. (Sheila Covarrubias)
