Zamboanga: City gov’t kicks off Christmas festival

The city government of Zamboanga under the leadership of Mayor John Dalipe kicked off Thursday, Dec. 1, the annual Christmas festivity dubbed Festival de Navidad with the theme “Celebracion de la Familia, la Amistad y la Paz.”

Mayor Dalipe personally led the opening activity marked by the ceremonial switch-on of the Christmas lights and decors donning the facade of the 115-year-old City Hall, historic Plaza Pershing, Plaza Rizal and the adjacent gardens, including Paseo del Mar and Plaza del Pilar.

Also lit up are the Rotary Rotonda at Gov. Camins, road center islands and Integrated Bus Terminal (IBT) in Divisoria, among others.

Prior to the anticipated switch-on, the more than 2,000 rank and file employees of the city government headed by Mayor Dalipe, Vice Mayor Josephine “Pinpin” Pareja and members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod gathered at Paseo del Mar for merry making as they march towards City Hall grounds.

Spearheaded by the City Tourism Office, the kick off parade offered P20,000 cash prize for each of the competition category : Most Colorful Contingent, Jolliest Contingent, Best Christmas Costume, Most Unique Props, and Best Christmas Chant. (Vic Larato, photo courtesy by Yoshi Rodriguez)
