Strong waves spawned by monsoon rains battered the coastal area of barangay Maasin in the west coast, displacing 45 families with 265 individuals around 1am Friday, September 13, according to the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
As this developed, Mayor John Dalipe has tasked the CSWDO and concerned agencies to swiftly attend to the needs of the affected families by providing the necessary relief assistance.
In her report to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, CSWDO head Ma. Socorro Rojoas said the displaced families are temporarily housed at the Maasin covered court and at the Ayuda Badjao Center.
Per CSWDO assessment and profiling, houses of 6 families with 36 individuals were totally damaged while the houses of 11 families with 66 individuals were partially damaged during the incident.
Meanwhile, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) reported that the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) building along R.T. Lim Boulevard suffered minor damage after it was hit by a jungkong boat amidst heavy rains and strong winds around 2:25pm Thursday, Sept. 12.
The CDRRMC’s Team delta and Coast Guard personnel responded to the incident.
