Pasig City Mayor Victor Ma. Regis Nubla “Vico” Sotto on Friday filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) in a bid to seek re-election in the city.

“Nag-file na po ako kaagad ng COC para tapos na, di naman kailangan ng drama at suspense [I immediately filed my COC, it’s done now, we don’t need drama and suspense anymore],” said Sotto in a tweet.

He was accompanied by his mother veteran actress and Coney Reyes and his father actor and TV host Vic Sotto. His running mate is former Pasig Rep.Robert “Dodot” Jaworski Jr.

“Basta, panahon man ng pulitika o hindi, uunahin natin ang trabaho [Political season or not, our work will come first],” Sotto said recalling that he was seated as a mayor in a “normal” situation for only 9 months then the pandemic kicked in.

He also asked his constituents to help him fulfill his desire to serve them better and make time for the moments which was “stolen” by Covid-19.

“Nandiyan na ‘yung mga reporma. Iba na ngayon. Paiigtingin na lang natin at sisiguraduhin na damang dama ng bawat Pasigueño ang mas pinabubuting serbisyo ng pamahalaang lungsod [We already instituted reforms. It is already a different time now. We will strengthen it and make sure that every Pasigueño would feel the better service of the city government],” he added.

Sotto, a Political Science graduate from Ateneo de Manila University, was recognized in February by the US State Department as one of its international anti-corruption champions, citing his prioritization of transparency and anti-corruption initiatives.

The young mayor was described by the US State Department as a “standard-bearer for a new generation of Philippine politicians.”

Before his stint as a mayor, he was recognized as the best-performing councilor in 2016.

In 2019, Sotto defeated then-incumbent mayor Robert Eusebio. The Eusebios ruled the city for 27 years.
