The US Embassy in Manila said American citizens in the Philippines and Filipinos with lawful permanent residency status are not required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 when they fly to the US.

However, those without vaccination will be required to undergo RT-PCR testing within 24 hours before their flight; and to show proof of negative test at the airport.

The US Embassy in Manila said this is a new policy issued by the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) effective November 8.

Previously, US citizens and greencard holders just need to submit proof of negative viral test three days before their flight— regardless of vaccination status.

Now, the policy was amended for US citizens and green card holders who are not fully vaccinated. Their RT-PCR test should be done no less than 24 hours before their flight.

Only those who have full vaccination status are given the 72-hour window to take their test.

The Embassy said fully vaccinated American citizens and green card holders should present proof of vaccination to qualify for the three-day test window.

Last November 8, the US also opened its borders to all international travelers as long as they are fully inoculated with Covid-19 vaccines approved by the World Health Organization.

Three to five days upon arrival in the US, all travelers — regardless of vaccination status — are “recommended” to undergo viral test, and self-monitor for possible Covid-19 symptoms. Aside from the test, unvaccinated US citizens and permanent residents are also advised to undergo home and self-quarantine for seven days after travel even if the viral result showed they are negative for Covid. If they didn’t get these on the fifth day, their quarantine period will be extended for 10 days.
