Three (3) Zamboangueño chess players bested international competitors as they captured 4 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze medals in their respective team and individual events in the 6th Eastern Asia (ASEAN) Youth Chess Championship being held in Bangkok, Thailand, November 4-13.
Robick Vohn Villa bagged the team gold medal in the Blitz Event and team silver medal in the Rapid Event of the 18 and Under Boys Category; Angela Joelle San Luis also won team gold medal in the Rapid and Blitz Event of 18 and Under Girls Category while John Cyrus Borce won the team gold medal in the Rapid Event and team silver medal in the Blitz Event of the 14 and Under Boys Category.
Villa, San Luis and Borce are among the 80 players from 10 ASEAN countries and Korea, Taipei, Hong Kong, and Mongolia who are taking part in the 6th East Asia Youth Chess Championship.
The three Zamboangueno chess wizards have also won medals in previous competitions.
