The small leaping primate known as Tarsier was found 10:00 this morning, September 28, 2020 in Sitio Baliw, Brgy. Payapag, Bacuag, Surigao del Norte.

According to Riza Mae Melitante Opider, a certain Lolito Orit saw a tail while clearing the bushes in a coco farm. He thought it was a rat hiding inside the leaves. “Nanghambas man sila sa kalubihan sir .. kalaong daw silag ambaw kay ang buntot man una nakita sa ilayom ng mga dahon niya ila ge dakop.”

This afternoon the CENRO personnel documented the female primate and released back to the place where she was found.

Tarsiers according to Britannica are intermediate in form between lemurs and monkeys, measuring only about 9–16 cm (3.5–6 inches) long, excluding a tail of about twice that length. (OIC Jun Clerigo, RPN DXKS Surigao, photos courtesy of Riza Mae M. Opider)
