The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in Caraga Region has intensified its partnership with the mining sector in Dinagat Islands to ensure that skills training will be available in the community.

Last September 24, TESDA Caraga Regional Director Tarhata Mapandi visited Cagdianao Mining Corporation (CMC), a mining corporation in the province which is located at Brgy. Valencia, Cagdianao, Dinagat Islands.

The purpose of the visit to the mine site is to primarily assure and maintain the quality of program and services offered to the community as well as the integrity of assessment centers based on the standards and operating procedures.

CMC has six qualifications accredited by TESDA. These are Driving NC II, Heavy Equipment Operation (HEO) Forklift NC II, HEO Wheel Loader NC II, HEO Motor Grader NC II, HEO Hydraulic Excavator NC II and HEO Rigid On-Highway Dump Truck NC II.

Moreover, CMC also showcased the heavy equipment simulators machine used by the trainees before going to the actual field training.

Mining industry is one of TESDA’s major industry to tie up in terms of Heavy Equipment Operations, Construction and other General Infrastructure related qualifications.

Mining stakeholders had said that the industry is in a unique position to help the industry recover from the economic setbacks caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and boost development in the countryside given the right policy environment.
