Some 50 profiled child laborers in Surigao City participated in the Project Angel Tree “Adopt a Batang Malaya Star” of DOLE Surigao del Norte in celebration of National Children’s Month, held at Parkway Hotel, Surigao City.
The 50 profiled child laborers with their families received gifts of grocery packages, school supplies, clothes, and cash prizes from “angels” or benefactors of the program. The benefactors included Taganito Mining Corporation (TMC), Hinatuan Mining Corporation (HMC), Polaris Construction and Gen. Services, Evaristo and Sons Sea Transport Corp., CTS Household and Labor Services., JCI Surigao Wencsie, CTB Construction and Development Corp., AT Dumlao Construction, INC., Leg Konstruct and Development Corp., Mega Grand Enterprises, Surigaonon Visayan Marketing Corporation., Mcdonald’s Surigao., Dagdaks Lending Corporation, Unite General Merchandise, and Palma Superstore.
The program was graced by DOLE Surigao del Norte Field Office (DOLE SDNFO) Head Ms. May C. Velonta, SDNFO Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP) focal person Ms. Arciazel L. Lagrama, City Councilor Hon. Joniel Aldonza, Ms. Jarah Cabania, Admin Officer II of PESO Surigao City, and representatives of Benefactors.
CLPEP is a program of DOLE that contributes to the government’s Philippine Program Against Child Labor . It aims to prevent and eliminate stop child labor in its worst form thru profiling and providing relevant assistance and services of the department.
