The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry Surigao del Norte successfully conducted the two-day Skills Training on Abaca Handicrafts to the 39 members of the “Kahugpungan sa Tribong Mamanwa sa Kumonidad sa Tiltilan” last April 12-13, 2023 at Sitio Tiltilan, Mahanub, Gigaquit, SDN.

The activity aims to provide skills, livelihood assistance, and opportunities to the organization to venture into handicraft making as an income-generating project. Abaca is readily available in their area, prompting the members to use this as their main medium.

Mr. Emmanuel Binos, the resource person/trainer of the two-day training, shared his expertise and knowledge, allowing the participants to create various designs and crafts made from Abaca such as hats, bags, pots, and others.

The training was facilitated by NCIP Bad-as Community Service Center headed by Ms. Marcelina P. Duplina, Community Officer III.

Entrepreneurial Mind-setting and Financial Literacy were also discussed during the training by the Senior Business Counselor from Negosyo Center Bacuag and Claver.
