Surigao city participates in the 1st Governor’s Rescuelympics

In line with the celebration of National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) and its theme “Bantayog ng Katatagan at ang Pagbubuklod sa Layuning Kahandaan,” the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Surigao del Norte held the 1st Governor’s Rescuelympics, a Rescue and Lifesaving Skills Battle.

The two-day Rescuelympics concluded today at the Gaisano Capital Surigao Parking Lot, where local teams showcased their abilities in responding to emergencies.

The City Government of Surigao, represented by City Councilor Joshua Emilio S. Geli and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), participated in the closing ceremony.

Participants were recognized for their dedication and skills, underscoring the importance of disaster preparedness in community resilience. Gov. Robert Lyndon S. Barbers, Board Member Victor F. Bernal, and Gilberto L. Gonzales of the PDRRMO’s Operation and Warning Division also attended the closing ceremony, emphasizing the leadership’s commitment to disaster resilience.

This event highlights the collaborative effort needed to enhance Surigao’s capability to respond to emergencies and build a more resilient community. (Mark James Lisondra)
