Surigao City Local Youth Development Office hosts successful 1st Batang Surigaonon Youth Press Summit

    In celebration of Linggo ng Kabataan, the Local Youth Development Office (LYDO), headed by Atty. Krystel Grace Buniel, hosted the 1st Batang Surigaonon Youth Press Summit at the City Gymnasium.

    Student journalists from various schools across Surigao City participated in the event.

    City Mayor Pablo Yves L. Dumlao II, along with guest speakers Dr. Faith B. Elumba, Atty. Katheri Ann Charcos-Puyo, Engr. Francis Glenn N. Suante, City HRMDO Hairee Cel Pedimonte, and Darryl Mah Laurente, addressed the participants, emphasizing the importance of journalism in shaping critical thinking and effective communication skills among the youth.

    The summit served as a platform for young journalists to sharpen their skills, exchange ideas, and deepen their understanding of social issues, ethics, and the power of the press. Supported by the Surigao City DepEd Division and private schools in the city, the event provided hands-on experience in press conference interviews, aiming to broaden the reach of student journalism and foster a more engaged and informed student body.

    The participants were from various schools in Surigao City, including Day-asan NHS, San Jose NHS, Lipata NHS, Zaragosa NHS, Caraga Regional Science HS, Alegria NHS, Cantiasay NHS, Wilfredo Rafols Memorial NHS, Capalayan NHS, Nonoc NHS, Talisay NHS, Ipil NHS, Rizal NHS, Anomar NHS, Cabrera-Altres NHS, Juan P. Cedro Memorial NHS, Surigao City NHS, Libuac National High School, Taft NHS, Manjagao NHS, Mat-i NHS, Patricio A. Bernaldez Memorial NHS, STI College, and St. Paul University Surigao.
