The City Government of Surigao and the Provincial Government of Surigao del Norte are reinforcing efforts to protect communities from natural hazards through stronger disaster preparedness.
On November 6, 2024, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Officer-in-Charge Cicero Cosme P. Tripoli paid a courtesy visit to City Mayor Pablo Yves L. Dumlao II to discuss expanded collaboration on early warning systems and resilience measures, including plans for a Tsunami Early Warning System.
OIC Tripoli was joined by PDRRMO Admin Assistant Robert Badiang, Technical Staff Edgar Catulay, and Staff Member Rey Villarina.
Early Warning Systems for flood, landslide, and storm surge hazards are already operational in several barangays in Surigao City, reflecting the combined efforts of city and provincial governments. These systems provide critical data, enabling quick, informed decisions during emergencies.
This partnership is a key step toward a safer, more resilient Surigao, aligning local resources and expertise to strengthen disaster risk reduction.
