Surigao City – Honesty indeed runs among Baggage X-ray Machine Screeners at the Port of Surigao’s Passenger Terminal Building.
John Rey Yap, a security screener, is being hailed for his actions after he found a sling bag containing around ₱ 80,000 cash, IDs and mobile phones left behind at the port’s Baggage X-ray Machine while on duty at the facility’s security inspection area last morning, 03 July 2022.
Yap immediately sought help from the Port Police Officer on duty, PPO2 Kervic Quirequire, who then tried to locate the owner based on Identification Cards found inside the bag.
Within minutes, a certain Arsenal Ybanez Quirico, a passenger bound for Dinagat Islands showed up at the Port Police Division Headquarters to claim the bag. Quirico got his belongings back after having been verified as the rightful owner.
It may be recalled that last Friday, 01 July 2022, a Security Screener named Christopher Montera successfully returned ₱ 200,000 in cold cash contained inside a bag left behind in the Baggage X-ray Machine Conveyor at the Port of Surigao Passenger Terminal Building. The security screening unit is under the direct supervision of PMO Surigao’s Port Police Division.
