THE Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) 2022 marked for the second straight day its return to a full format on Saturday in Singapore with close to 15,000 runners vying in the 5-km and 10-km categories from the F1 Pit Building at the break of dawn.

Runners raced through the streets of Singapore as they made their way to the finish line at The Float @ Marina Bay.

With restrictions being lifted in Singapore, this year’s event has returned to include more runners, as well as feature a mass start and road race format.

On Friday, the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon Kids Dash attracted 4,000 kids and parents taking on a 650-meter run on the same course.

Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin participated in the 5-km category, running alongside youths from SportCares, an organization which actively reach out to youth at-risk in the community and engaging them through sports.

With inclusivity being key at SCSM, the event also saw runners from special groups such
as the Special Olympics Singapore, SUN-DAC, and the Specialme.MY Run Club, which race organizers Ironman Group had offered complimentary race slots to their runners.

“SCSM 2022 is an exceptionally special one as the event returns in full swing since 2019. Participants from SportCares have always shown strong support for the event and this year we have our largest group of 650 participants,” said Mr. Marcus Tan, Chief of Sport Development Group of Sport Singapore.

“Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Tan Chuan-Jin, and I ran together with the SportCares participants and many were excited to have the opportunity to be part of this marquee event and pound the roads together with their friends,” Tan added. With restrictions being lifted in Singapore, this year’s event has returned to include more runners, as well as feature a mass start and road race format.
