PRC board exam takers told: Beware of ‘fixers’

THE Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) has issued a warning against bogus professional board “fixers” who continue to victimize licensure exam candidates even amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

PRC Chairman Teofilo S. Pilando, Jr. issued the reminder after receiving reports two suspects were arrested and detained last Monday by law enforcement authorities. The fixers reportedly introduced themselves as “professional board members” during the board exam for radiologic technology.

He said the suspects even wore PRC jackets and even flashed around fake calling cards.

“They said they could ensure a person could pass the exam or even include them in the Top 10,” Pilando said in a phone interview.

PRC is now trying to convince the affected professional board aspirants to file charges against the suspects.

Pilando said a similar scam was also reported during the board exam for medicine earlier this year where one of the victims even shelled out an undisclosed amount of money.

He urged licensure exam takers to not transact with such suspicious individuals.

“If they ask for money, then there is something wrong,” said Pilando, who stressed such is not a prescribed practice by members of the professional boards.

He said the National Bureau of Investigation is already investigating the said illegal schemes.
